In August 2016 we opened our holiday home in Monschau-Kalterherberg in the Eifel. The former farmhouse with barn was completely renovated between March 2015 and July 2016 and extensively converted into a modern and cozy holiday home on two floors with about 110 square meters of living space. It is located about 300 meters from the center in a quiet location. Parking is available directly at the house, bicycles can be safely parked in the barn.
The Hohe Venn (high moorland) and the Eifel National Park are just a few minutes away. Many beautiful hiking and biking trails (RurUfer cycle path, Vennbahnradweg) lead directly past our place.
Our equipment:
The house is centrally heated with a modern pellet stove. Wood pellets must be refilled occasionally.
Fully furnished country kitchen with all the usual electrical appliances (oven, dishwasher, ceramic hob with hood, large fridge ,, microwave, toaster, coffee machines, etc.) and a basic set of spices, Spültabs etc. Big table for seven people.
Cozy living room with reading corner, couch, satellite TV (40 "), Bluray player, radio, electric fireplace.
Three bedrooms (one a walk-through room) with a total of 7 beds on two floors (2 double beds, 3 single beds in the children's room). The bedroom on the ground floor also has a spacious washing area. All beds / bedding (except extra bed) including the mattresses are suitable for allergy sufferers. Maximum occupancy: 4 adults, 3 children (1 additional cot possible).

Two bathrooms incl. WC, some with underfloor heating, bathtub, walk-in shower, changing table
Play area with many games, Lego, Playmobil, wooden blocks and a Wii. Games room with pool billiards, table football and darts. There is also a large selection of board games in the living room. Even if the sun does not shine, there should be no boredom.
Outside there is a garden trampoline, slackline, children's swing, small playhouse, sandpit and vehicles.
On the furnished terrace you can play garden chess and a large charcoal grill is available.
WLAN with a transfer rate of 16 Mbps is included.
In addition, a washing machine, dryer, ironing board, iron and a freezer, as well as a travel cot and 2 children's high chairs are available free of charge. High quality linen and towels are provided.
The village center with supermarket, bakery, butcher, pizzeria, bistro, restaurant, bank, post office and family doctor is about 300 meters away.

Our cottage in a quiet location is designed especially for families with children, recreation seekers and active vacationers. For stag and hen parties and similar occasions, the house is not suitable.

Summary: This place was really incredible. Any question I had about the property was immediately addressed! The kids loved the game room. Everyone was comfortable and we felt very safe even with our 3 year old. You can tell they took a lot of attention to every detail to make it a pleasant experience for children and adults!

Summary: Jochen's holiday house was a comfortable place to stay away from the throngs of tourists but still be close enough to Monschau for us to visit it as often as we wanted. The food around us was good, the pizza restaurant was excellent and extremely affordable. We've gotten a taste for Bitburger beer, thanks to Jochen's introduction to it and we will be buying it at home from now on too. The house is amazing, a great place to spend a day when it's raining with all the games to play with the family and we really unwound. The neighbourhood was beautiful, neat, clean and very friendly - everyone we met greeted us. Our only gripe is that we can't move there permanently. Other things we did were to go to Aachen's cathedral, the Lindt factory, Monschau and the local waffle shop at the abandoned rail (with the rail bikes) which was a short walk across the border into Belgium. Thank you Jochen for an incredible holiday and your wonderful hospitality.

Summary: We had an great stay in holiday home Schmedte. The house was spotless clean, very well equiped and cosy. The owners are excellent hosts. The house is great in all seasons, we stayed in winter and there was plenty of entertainment for both adults and children and the house was lovely and warm. We can only recommend. Summary: We spent a fortnight in this fantastic house. Everything about the house was excellent. Firstly, the location is great. The scenery is wonderful, trees everywhere and lovely lakes and reservoirs not too far away. It is perfect for walking and cycling. The village itself has everything you need; a small supermarket, a bakery, a cash point, a restaurant and a pizzeria. The town of Monschau itself is a short drive away. It looks like something from a fairy tale! The house couldn't be faulted. We were there during some very hot weather, but the downstairs always stayed nice and cool. It is very well equipped. The children were particularly well catered for. There was so much for them to play with. Outside, there is a swing set, a goal with net, a huge trampoline, a sandpit, ride-on toys, a giant chess set. Inside there are lots of toys and games appropriate for pre school and primary aged children. For slightly older children, there is a pool table, table football, an electronic dartboard and also a Wii with a selection of games. Everything was of a really high quality in the house. The beds were extremely comfortable. Importantly at this time of corona virus, everything was sparkling clean when we arrived. The owners were extremely helpful and communication was excellent. They were able to answer all our questions, provided advice if we needed it and came to check if everything was ok for us. Overall, we had a wonderful holiday and would love to return to this property again.

Summary: Our family (three kids and visiting in-laws) have stayed at this property for two consecutive years now, while visiting the Monschau Christmas Market. Just like last year, I could not have been more happy with the house and remain truly impressed by the efforts taken by the hosts to make this such a welcoming property. The cleanliness, amenities, and thoughtful details make the home perfect for a visiting family—our kids particularly enjoy the upstairs game room. I hope to make another trip here soon—maybe in the Summer, when we can enjoy all of the surrounding outdoor activities. This is definitely now our family’s favorite getaway!

Summary: Lovely property, particularly well set up for families with children. We stayed one week with our two boys - 4 and 7 - and they couldn't wait to get home each day. Imagine it would be great for older kids too. Nicely decorated and maintained throughout. Kitchen well equipped. Games room a hit - table football a favourite but also pool, darts and a games console for those with older families. Great little play area with good selection of toys in one of the bedrooms. Garden and outside toys ideal for young children. Good bakery in the village. Friendly place despite our very limited German. Plenty to do within a half hour drive. Area interesting naturally and historically. Exceeded expectations.

Summary: My family and I were truly impressed by the wonderful accommodations in this charming home, as well as the great experience we had in dealing with the hosts. First, I will say that we have stayed in many vacation homes but have never found a place with such attention to detail in the decoration, furnishings, cleanliness, and family activity offerings. The weather was snowy, so my children especially enjoyed the game room and assortment of toys and games offered for our use. My wife, parents, and I really appreciated the warm wood-pellet stove and the room configuration--which was perfect for a large family. Next, I will say that the courtesy and hospitality extended by the hosts were absolutely what I hoped for--all communications were prompt and helpful--and they took extra care to make sure we were comfortable without any imposition. Finally, the location of the home was very ideal for year-round enjoyment of nature and the nearby attractions. We were in town for the Monschau Christmas market, but I certainly hope to make a return trip when we can enjoy hiking in the nearby Eifel Park. I definitely recommend this property, especially for families with multiple children. Thank you!
